Local, Personal, Independent Financial Planning

Jonathan established MBS IFP in June 2019 having previously worked for 32 years in financial services, with the last 12 years leading the Financial Advice & Investment Planning for one of Northern Ireland’s largest Financial Advisory businesses. Prior to this, he was the Northern Ireland Manager for Standard Life Insurance Company, having started his career back in 1987 as a Branch Trainee with Clerical Medical.

Jonathan has held senior Board & Investment Committee positions over the last decade, as well as his Financial Services qualifications he also holds the Society of Estate Planning and Practitioners (STEP) qualification and has advised many Trustees on the Investment of Trust funds.  The core of this time has been spent advising SME Business Owners, High net worth individuals on their Personal Financial & Investment Planning Strategy including intergenerational & Retirement Planning.

In this exciting phase of building this new business, Jonathan is delighted to be engaging with like-minded clients, who see the value of Independent Financial Advice, understand that it is important to control costs and have control over their Personal & Corporate Financial Planning affairs. Our route to market has always been in association with clients Professional Advisors and many of Northern Irelands leading Accountancy & Solicitors firms work closely with MBS IFP.

Away from work, family & and a reasonable consumption of watching and attending various sporting endeavours seem to fill up Jonathan’s spare time very quickly.

Alan began his career in 1971 when he joined the Friends Provident Life Office. His career included becoming the N Ireland manager for Friends Provident in 1987 before moving to the advice side of the industry, helping establish Coopers and Lybrand Financial Services.

Alan later joined Ulster Pension Trustees at the time being Northern Ireland’s largest pension consultancy business. In 1995 Alan helped establish Pension and Financial Consultants ltd becoming Managing director and later Chairman before taking early retirement.

Alan was delighted to return to the industry and help Jonathan establish this new business providing independent financial advice to our client base.

Alan’s interests away from work now involve watching rather than participating in sport.

Paul began his careers in Financial Services with Ulster Pension Trustees in 1990 before joining Pension & Financial Consultants Ltd in 1995. In 2018, following the integration of PFC into Davy, Paul took a career break during which he undertook a Masters of Science in Business Management at Ulster University.

Paul joined MBS Independent Financial Planning Ltd in October 2021 and specialises in providing retirement and estate planning solutions to business owners and individuals.

Paul spends his time away from work walking in the Sperrin’s.

Liam began his career in Financial Services with Prudential following graduating Law from Queen’s in 2003, eventually joining one of the largest Wealth Management firms in Northern Ireland at the time, Pension & Financial Consultants, in 2012 as a Paraplanner. Following their sale to Davy in late 2015, he headed up the Paraplanning division until the opportunity arose to re-join his former colleagues Jonathan and Alan as Operations Director with MBS.

Throughout his nearly 17 years in Financial Services, he has become a Chartered Financial Planner of the PFS, that has assisted in becoming a strong technical expert in Pension & Inheritance Tax Planning matters.

Liam spends his time away from work juggling a family of five, with five pets to even the balance.

After graduating from Ulster University with a first class honours degree in Business Management, Megan started her career within Financial Services in July 2017. She joined MBS in July 2019 as part of the initial business establishment team.

Within MBS, Megan completes client valuations, handles commissions and streamlines the business processes and back office system. Megan is currently completing CII exams in order to obtain her Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.

Away from work, Megan spends time watching various sports, including Formula 1, snooker and golf. She also enjoys going on adventures with her husband, Adam, and French Bulldogs, Arnold and Nelly.

Jess began her career in Financial Services after graduating from Queens University with a MA in Film and Visual Studies in 2014.

After deviating from her degree choice to take on a career in Financial Services she has spent the last 5 years working for an IFA developing her knowledge and in that time has obtained 6 CII exams to date; Jess hopes to finish the remaining exams to achieve Diploma level in the near future.

Jess joined MBS as Financial Administrator in October 2020 and is keen to progress her knowledge in Financial Services and advance her qualifications and understanding of industry.

Outside work Jess enjoys hiking in the Mournes, cycling, reading and of course still likes watching films.

Gillian has been working in the Financial Services Industry for over 40 years.

She spent 25 years of her career with Standard Life obtaining valuable training.  Since then Gillian has worked for small bespoke Financial Advisory firms.

Outside work, Gillian volunteers with the L’Arche community befriending adults with learning disabilities.  she also enjoys walking and gardening.

Trevor has been a Financial Administrator for over 40 years in the Financial Services industry.

His strengths are in processing new business applications from illustration stage to completion and issue of policy documents.

Away from work, Trevor enjoys spending time with family and follows football and still plays in an over 50’s group

John graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2022 with a First Class Honours Degree in Economics and Accounting, achieving the Shaw Memorial Prize for best performing BSc Economics student.

John began his career as an associate in KPMG, a leading Big Four Chartered Accounting firm, obtaining valuable experience in Financial Services Tax Consulting and Compliance.

John joined MBS in August 2023 with a desire to progress his career within financial planning and is working towards CII exams to obtain a Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.

Outside work, John competes in athletics as a middle-distance runner and has a keen interest in playing and watching golf, as well as officiating as a football referee in local youth leagues. John is an ambassador for One Young World and Millenium Volunteers, and above all loves spending as much time as possible with family and his fiancée, Christina.

Erin graduated from Ulster University with a First Class Honors degree in Journalism with English Literature in 2021. She then began her career in Financial Services at Citi Bank, before deciding to pursue a career in personal finance planning here at MBS.

Erin is keen to build her knowledge of Financial Advice and work towards gaining industry standard qualifications.

Outside of work, Erin enjoys planning holidays, going to concerts and browsing the aisles of a bookshop.
